There is nothing I enjoy more than creating with my daughter. She has become my right hand when it comes to cooking, coloring, and crafting. I remember when I was growing up, my mom would always tell me that the best gifts my sister and I could give her were the ones we made ourselves. Now that I have received those home made gifts as a mother, I know why. It’s the sweetest, most heart warming experience any mom could ask for. So this year I wanted to re-create that for our grandmas with a little help from Lydia.
I enjoy keeping things simple, so I started to think about how we could re-purpose some artwork of Lydia’s as a gift. Putting bouquets together is one of my favorite things to do so I thought these would make the perfect pair. I used to paint a lot in high school and college so I dug through my old paints, grabbed some gorgeous silk ribbon I had, and gave Lydia a brush and craft paper. She really enjoys painting right now and is interested in finding out how the colors mix. It’s the best to sit and listen to her talk herself through it.
If you are interested in trying this out, you probably already have everything you need to make the bouquets. The one thing I had to buy was the flowers. Mother’s Day is early in the season for us in Wyoming for cut flowers, so I went through a local florist to bring these in. When Lydia saw the peonies she got so gitty.

This was so fun. I fell in love with Lydia’s curiosity about each flower. She would casually ask their names, if we have them in our yard, explored their smell, and “ohhhed” and “ahhhhed” over the colors. She’definitely a mini me.
You guys, please enjoy your Mother’s Day. There is nothing more special in the world that being a part of the motherhood club and I am wishing all of you the very best.
