Otis Redding radio, natural beauty, and going out to the movie theater are in. (Did anyone else run to see ‘Challengers?’ Or ‘Fly Me to the Moon?’) Fast fashion, dupes, and mindless scrolling instead of getting outside… are so far out. The lists go on and on – literally. We chatted with actresses, interior designers, influencers, and more to lock down the ultimate 2024 summertime vibe. (Because it’s a season and a feeling we want to keep going all year long.)
Teya Kepila
Teya Kepila is an artist and creative based in Brooklyn, who discovers beauty in the everyday, from “worn-out paint, loose strands of hair, faded jeans, holey clothes, coffee ringlets, the wonk, the donk, and everything in between.” She is also a wellness advocate, filling her ritualistic pottery and ceramics with purposeful plants and nutrition to inspire a holistic approach to health. As a certified holistic health coach, Teya marries her passions through her shop and events, The Turmeric Times. The Turmeric Times.

What’s in:
- Organic, locally sourced and high-quality scents – whether it’s for yourself or for staging your home (one of my favorite brands is Malin and Goetz – the Sage, Strawberry, and Tomato scents are all crowd-pleasers)
- A dish I’m always craving is the Steak Tartare from Casa Cipriani
- Maximalism. People are craving that personal aesthetic – something that adds comfort and familiarity to your home.
- Classic, timeless jewelry pieces (I love Cartier and Ruchi for special occasions)
- There is nothing as serene and soothing in the stifling heat as some Frank Sinatra, Bill Withers, and Stevie Wonder
- Sustainable workout wear (I love the colors and the quality of Lululemon – and, most importantly, it is very flattering to all body types)
- Bright white dresses (luxurious yet breezy; it’s the perfect outfit for any summer occasion)
- La Monte loungewear (my friend Jacqui created this brand and I just bought the butterfly sweatshirt for my daughter and myself to match)
- Sun-blocking apparel (this summer we’re bringing out our hats and sunglasses, and basking in the shade)
- Extreme amenities – from IV drips to LED saunas, rock climbing walls, car elevators, and private subway entrances
- Investing in art and artists (finding a piece that speaks to you visually and conceptually is an absolutely incredible experience)
- The ‘tomato girl’ trend hits yet another summer (and with good reason)
What’s out:
- Artificial scents like room sprays, especially aerosols
- Fads, dupes, fast fashion, and flashy brands (focus on building a quality, subtle capsule wardrobe instead)
- Artificial flowers and fake plants
- Oversized clothing (achieve the loose fit with something that is tailored slightly for a comfy yet put-together feel)
- Monochrome rooms – it’s not minimalism, it’s boring. Especially when it’s a cold white or gray. Add some of your personality to the space!
- Prioritizing other things over a good night’s sleep
- Surrounding yourself with people who don’t let you grow
- Looking good during and after a workout (I measure a successful workout by how much it makes me sweat and ruins my hair!)

- Not waiting for a special occasion to break out the fine china; thoughtful tablescapes can elevate everyday dining experiences!

- Adding personality to your home (eclectic gallery walls for your artwork and collectibles are a perfect way to do it)

What’s out:
- Skipping self-care
- False lashes that damage your naturals
- Not protecting your skin while tanning
- Taking things personally – this can take too much of our joy away!
- Scrolling social media all day (it’s not good for us – and it’s boring!)
- Being “practical” at all times (decorate your space, do the fun thing even if it’s not the norm or convenient, express yourself!)
- Not doing things because you have no one to do it with you – go to the event and make friends. Take yourself to dinner. Do what makes you happy!
- Not making the most out of every day – our life is now, and each day is an opportunity for new experiences and memories (this is what makes up our years of life and it goes quick)
