For a family that typically does a bit of traveling during the summer, our 2020 season has looked drastically different. A positive to all of this has definitely been the reintroduction of simplicity to our lives. Something as simple as a picnic can be so special, especially if it’s time away from the crazy with a focus on family. To me, it’s the best way to utilize what you’ve grown in the garden while enjoying the cooler summer evenings. So if you’re like me, you already have a couple picnic ideas for a special night out in a pretty field or backyard with this list of our favorite picnic items.

What to Bring | Our Favorite Picnic Items

Over the past couple of years I’ve made it a goal to be more intentional when it comes to shopping and adding pieces to my current collection. Starting with the basket, I wanted something neutral so that it could easily transition to fall for a picnic under some red and yellow leaves.

Because you’re carrying the flatware, plates and linens to your picnic date, pack non-breakable items to avoid the stress of losing a favorite from your kitchen. I’ve listed a bamboo plate, melamine plate and a gorgeous floral tin plate that are some of my favorite picnic items because of their versatility. I use any of these non-breakable plates at dinner time for my daughters and love working them into our table for backyard barbecues.

Something I’ve had in my cupboard for years are acrylic glasses. For our patio get-togethers, they give our guests piece of mind when we serve a cocktail in these instead of a glass. Also works for your mini outdoor gatherings.

To wrap up our list of picnic ideas, remember that you don’t always have to opt for a blanket to set the scene. Choose a table cloth you have at home, or an affordable option like the one we included here. That way stains, holes and stags won’t wreck the mood during your picnic date.

All and all, each of these items could easily work in the kitchen, camper and at a picnic so you will get plenty of use out of everything. Enjoy the rest of your summer moments and mini outdoor gatherings.
