One of my absolute favorite parts of being a blogger this past year has been getting to know new talent. I have so enjoyed collaborating with other bloggers, photographers and stylists. Especially when they are right here in my rural home town. This holiday season, I was lucky enough to collaborate with Smiling Eyes Photography and stylist, Amanda O’Rourke to put together this holiday boho photo backdrop.

I have seen these light, airy and whimsical photos that have pretty greens draping down or climbing up the sides of backdrops and have been loving them for weeks. So I was excited to see some of those images as part of the inspiration board for these shoots. I am always drawn to sets that are simple to set up, but still can inspire awe, so I wanted to give this a try.

I worked with a local florist to order greenery. If you enjoy putting projects like this together (at home or at other locations) don’t be afraid to bounce ideas off of a florist you work well with. It’s the easiest way to get exactly what you are picturing. I was looking for greenery with delicate leaves, long stems, lightweight, and something that would survive really well outside of water. My florist recommend these ruscus leaves to me and when the shipment arrived I was thrilled. The green is the perfect color and the leaves are perfectly feminine.

To build this backdrop, I brought fishing line, floral wire and cutters. The stems were extremely easy to wire together into a garland to make the longer, draping sections. To create downward flow, we attached the stems to the lace with the fishing line, just to keep everything in place. Overall, it took about an hour to get all the greenery placed (moving at a comfortable pace).

This is totally something that could be done in your own home. The ruscus is so lightweight that you could tape it to walls to have it appear as though it’s growing upwards. We used this look for these holiday shoots, but this is something that could look great for parties and photos all year long.
