Floral Details from Eva’s Sip & See Party

The House Magazine

I will be completely honest. I did not plan for a photographer for this party so there are hardly any photos of those who actually attended. This is terrible, but I hardly got any photos of Eva at her own party! I guess that’s what happens when you juggle a newborn while hosting a party. I did, however, want to show you some of the floral details from the small Sip & See I had for Eva. Thankfully, my sister took the time to snap some photos of the decor!

From the Garden

In the spring, I knew I wanted to plant flowers that I could use in arrangements for get togethers that we might have had. We didn’t end up hosting that much this summer (pregnancy), but I was glad I could use some for this party. One thing I knew I wanted to try and grow was this gorgeous amaranth used in the chandelier. I grew it from the seeds I bought from Floret Farms at the beginning of the year. You can use this flower to add any dramatic effect to an arrangement or installation and it was extremely easy to grow.

The cosmos are also from the garden and from Floret Farm seeds. These are one of my favorite flowers. So delicate, easy to incorporate into arrangements, good vase life and also extremely easy to grow. Right now, life requires me to grow low maintenance plants. And when I mean low maintenance, I mean the type of flower or plant that I can throw seeds down and walk away from it (#lifewithtwokids).

The Sip & See Chandelier

I knew I wanted to make one of these for this occasion because it would make a statement, and I could do it with Eva strapped into the baby wrap. I also didn’t buy anything for this piece! I used what we had around the house. If you want to re-create this, and do not have floral foam or zip ties on hand, that will be something you need.

Here’s what I used:

  • One wood plank found in the garage
  • Twine or rope
  • Floral foam
  • Zip ties
  • Drill for the holes on each end of the wood
  • Amaranth from the garden
  • Ladder
  • Husband who graciously obliged when asked to hang the piece

All I did was soak the floral foam, zip tie it to the wood, cut the flowers, stick the flowers into the foam one by one until I achieved the look I wanted, then hung the chandelier! It maybe took me 45 minutes, including chatting with a good friend while putting it together.

Our pergola is such an amazing space to incorporate floral installations like this. It gave me so many other ideas I can’t wait to try. Hope to be sharing some in the future!
