This post was created in collaboration with The Avenue. My opinions are my own – now and always.

I’m the girl who hangs on to summer as long as she can. It’s probably the flowers, gardening and patio dwelling. We don’t get a lot of time with warm weather in Wyoming, making the season extra special to me. This year The Avenue helped make the goodbye to the season pretty sweet.

SHOP THE TABLE

The switch from summer to fall is a special occasion to me, so a pretty table setting and little gathering is necessary. When I start to envision a tablescape design, I usually start with color, and the first place I look for inspiration are the seasons. In my home and with fashion, I tend to stick to neutral colors and textures. That’s probably why designing for a summer color palette is one of my favorites.

Sometimes I will see a piece (or pieces) that inspires the entire table – like the yellow chequed vintage plates I scooped up from my favorite vintage shop. I saw that pattern and color and used it as the base of my design. Those plates were easy to pair with the beautiful blush and mint pieces from The Avenue.

Here’s a list of my favorite vintage Etsy shops!

Setting Your Table

Another place I seek inspiration is from the inside of my own cupboards. I play around with how new pieces could be used with what I already have, while keeping the seasons in mind. That way, when you are setting your table, you can arrange colors, shapes and textures differently to create new looks – casual, elegant or seasonal.

Rules for Table Setting

Honestly, I’m terrible when it comes to following table setting rules. So my advice to you is to go ahead and break them. The basics that I do stick to are where the knives and forks live, placing the wine glasses to the right of the plate, and placing the salad plate over the dinner plate. There are so many ways to incorporate linens into the table design, and the perfect place to get into pattern play. I love the blush chequed napkins for their versatility. They are large enough to use as a place mat and provide the prettiest pattern to incorporate into any table setting. I also chose to layer another vintage find with the napkin under the plate for just another touch of detail.

Wine Glasses

Here’s another area where you can break the rules. For casual gatherings – which is what we love at our House – you can drink wine out of most any glass. I love stemless for the summer. Guests tend to move around more in the summer, carrying their glasses with them and into the outdoors. A stemless wineglass is easier to keep upright. I am a sucker for glassware, my friends make fun of me for it and my husband calls me crazy. Here are my stemless favorites from The Avenue:
